In Focus: European Parliament Elections

With the European Parliament elections taking place between the 6th and 9th of May, now is the time for youth to make their voices heard. Our President, Hend Mgaieth, and Secretary-General, Bruno Gonçalves, urge young people to exercise their right to vote, emphasizing their crucial role in shaping the future.

Global Perspectives

This month, our Vice-President Carlos Hernández sheds light on recent protests in Argentina and upcoming elections in Panama and the Dominican Republic. Argentina witnessed massive demonstrations against education funding cuts, while in Panama, candidate selection controversy looms. In the Dominican Republic, President Luis Abinader leads in polls. Youth, comprising over 30% of the electorate, wield significant influence. Our organization is committed to democracy through electoral observation missions, ensuring transparency and integrity in the process.

Guest of the month

In our exclusive interview with Enric López Jurado, YES President, he stresses the importance of the upcoming European elections in shaping the EU's future. He highlights the need for progressive reforms to counter conservatism and the far-right. Enric urges informed voting among young Europeans, emphasizing their role in safeguarding democracy and fundamental rights. He warns against the risks posed by far-right movements and calls for protecting the EU's core values during elections.

IUSY Activities and Highlights

This month, IUSY had fewer activities, but two events stood out. First, the roundtable discussed the Armenian Genocide's impact on young activists and the current situation in Artsakh. Also, Bruno Gonçalves, IUSY's Secretary-General, joined celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in Lisbon. Portugal marks 50 years of democracy!
