INTRODUCTION

The world is changing - here is a statement we hear now and then without even realizing how important it is. During the past years, from IUSY we have proudly claimed that we are “All Over the world to Change It”, knowing that this 6-letter word has a profound meaning in different contexts. For us, socialists and democrats, change has its causes and consequences, and it invites us to think about the society we want. It means we are prepared to face the challenges the world presents, whether it is a sanitary crisis, a financial market collapse, or increasing harm to our planet’s sustainability. But it also indicates that we are ready to fight all these challenges while looking to transform our societies into democratic and fair environments for development.

The incapability of previous generations to interrupt the vicious cycles of conflicts, insecurity, poverty, humans’ rights violations, human trafficking, dangerous migratory paths, and disqualification of our Democracy is proof that our generation has a central role in building the foundations for a positive change. And that is why we must be permanently convoked to fight the injustices that remain on our globe.

#1 FOR A PEACEFUL DEMOCRATIC AND FREE WORLD

Our world has been in constant change since the beginning of time. That change has affected the way we live, communicate, and express ourselves. We believe that the current era we live in is by far, and despite all the progress still to be done, the most worth living time for every human being without exception. Mainly because of our central values, we as young socialists, have been fighting for democracy. It is the basis of the societies we want to live in and the aim of our efforts. Our common effort is to build and protect it from the hands of despots whose aim is well known. We need strong democratic institutions, from the national to the global level, capable of guaranteeing fundamental human rights worldwide. Liberties and fundamental rights have always been contested by populists and extremists, but when it comes to defending what matters, most socialists and democrats have always stood on the crucial side of history. Our freedom of speech-conscience, self-determination, sexuality, religion, expression, and our rights to equal treatment under the law, fair trials, privacy, and to life must continue to determine our actions and our thoughts.

GOALS:

1. Creating a School for Peace, Dialogue and Freedom;

2. Foster hybrid events for the defense of Human Rights;

3. Creating a network between young elected officials.

#2 FOR AN EQUAL AND INCLUSIVE WORLD

The world is imperfect, and the most significant expression of it comes in the form of inequality. The socialist and social democratic movements always had as a priority the fight against those same inequalities.
The fight against inequality and discrimination has the aim to create equality and participation. No socialist or social democrat can be uninterested in this fight. Therefore, IUSY will remain in the front row, taking action and making the world a more inclusive place. IUSY will continue to defend the State’s role as a guarantee for inalienable rights: from justice to education, from decent work to healthcare.

GOALS:

1. Fostering activities with the Queer and Feminist Working Groups;

2. Creation of a Global Campaign for Young Workers’ Rights;

3. Development of an annual forum for refugees in partnership with other international organisations;

4. Fighting for the eradication of Child Labour

#3 FOR A DIGITAL AND PROSPEROUS WORLD

During the past few years, especially during the pandemic crisis, we are facing a series of activities of daily life that have been transferred to the digital world. As in all industrial revolutions, the digital process was also left for deregulation for an extended period and created new winners and losers, aggravating preexistent inequalities. The need for regulation at this level is enormous, urgent, and related to several critical issues. The digital transformation of society has been happening at a crazy speed, leaving a significant part of our citizens excluded from participation in these fields. We need a serious and determined fight against info exclusion, assuring no citizen is excluded from access to information or participation in society's life because he does not have the knowledge to do it online.

The digital revolution must be a synonym for prosperity, progress, equality and wellbeing.

GOALS:

1. Development of a ‘Good Practices Manifesto’ for digital work environments;

2. Fostering hybrid events whenever possible;

3. Global Digital Campaign for the Right to Disconnect;

#4 FOR A HEALTHY WORLD

Mental health awareness should also be on the agenda: it needs to be integrated into all aspects of health-system planning and social policy. The negative stereotypes and discriminatory responses associated with psychiatric stigma generate social disability and should also be changed by establishing global educational programs.

Public mental health policies should be designed to enable both prevention and treatment of psychological illness to be more effective. First and foremost, it is imperative to fight for national health systems universally to guarantee accessible and adequate health care and therapeutics without discrimination. Countries worldwide should modify the offer of psychosocial services, which are increasingly delivered in primary care settings, through telemedicine. All around the world, the population would benefit from better access to supportive interventions designed to promote wellness and enhance coping (such as psychoeducation or cognitive-behavioral techniques).

GOALS:

1. Fighting the negative stereotypes and discriminatory responses associated with psychiatric stigma;

2. Creation of a ‘World Mental Health Forum for the Youth’ to raise awareness over mental health issues;

3. Fighting for the creation of the World Mental Health organization;

4. Boosting open data frameworks to fight new viruses;

#5 FOR A SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY AND A JUST TRANSITION

The world is facing unique and frightening environmental challenges, among which we can highlight: climate change; the emerging crisis in the availability of water and its pollution; the threat to biodiversity and long-term damage to ecosystems; pollution of the atmosphere; the production and disposal of waste; the impacts of chemicals and toxic substances used in waste disposal; the destruction of aquatic ecosystems; deforestation and land degradation; the natural disasters that hit cities and countries among many more.

GOALS:

1. Studying the inclusion of a Carbon -Measurement report in future IUSY annual reports;

2. Organizing protests & progressive youth participation for climate action in Global events (such as COP);

3. Creating a strategy to raise awareness for plastic consumption and disposal in our events
