IUSY member organizations from the BRT (Balkan Round Table) Committee gathered in Podgorica from 3 to 5 March 2023, to discuss the topic “Challenges of security in the Western Balkan region“.
Following multiple earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria, these events have been affecting the most vulnerable people in the world. Unfortunately, the death toll has now passed the 40,000 lives. IUSY extends its deepest condolences to the families of the Syrian, Turkish and Kurdish people that became victims of the devastating earthquake in southern Turkey and Northern Syria, and wish a speedy recovery to those injured. Since the 12th of December 2022, Azerbaijani so-called environmentalists blocked the only highway, known as the Lachin Corridor, connecting Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to the outside world. Many of these “protesters” have been identified as members of the Azerbaijani military and government posing as civilians.

After the murder of Zhina Amini for not complying with hijab regulations properly, which the Autocratic regime has imposed on all women across Iran and Kurdistan since coming to power in 1979, demonstrations started in East Kurdistan and then spread throughout Iran. Many of the demonstrators in Eastern Kurdistan demanded the return of a democratic government that respects the rights and the aspirations of the Kurdish people.
