IUSY welcomes the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and urges for a sustainable and long-lasting resolution for Palestine

IUSY welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, this ceasefire is a vital step toward halting the ongoing genocide and suffering endured by the people in Gaza and the surrounding regions.

IUSY calls on all parties to ensure the immediate and effective implementation of this agreement. The international community namely the brokers of the agreement must remain committed and act decisively to prevent further attacks or provocations until the ceasefire has taken into effect.

We stress that this ceasefire must not be a pause in the conflict but the foundation for a sustainable and long-lasting resolution for Palestine. A permanent ceasefire is essential to end the cycle of violence, halt the ongoing genocide, and bring an end to the decades-long occupation and apartheid regime imposed on the Palestinian people by Israel. It is imperative that this agreement does not serve as a pretext for further annexation of Palestinian lands in the West Bank.

We urge all parties to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the immediate release of all 98 Israeli hostages in Gaza and thousands of Palestinian hostages from Gaza and West Bank. It is necessary that all sides show the utmost political will to secure the release of all hostages, avoiding any attempt to gain political advantage at the expense of human lives.

IUSY demands accountability for those responsible for the atrocities and suffering inflicted during this conflict. Preventing impunity is critical to achieving justice and rebuilding trust. Rehabilitation of Gaza is equally crucial. The international community must prioritize rebuilding Gaza entirely, restoring vital infrastructure, ensuring access to essential services, and supporting the recovery of the Palestinian people that has endured incomprehensible hardship.

We also call for the restoration of critical support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). This support is essential to address the immediate humanitarian needs of Palestinian refugees and displaced people and to contribute to long-term stability in the region.

IUSY reaffirms the urgent need for political commitment to enforce a two-state solution. This involves ending the occupation and recognizing Palestine as a sovereign, free, and independent state, where the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people are respected in line with international law, relevant United Nations resolutions, and past agreements. Only through a viable two-state solution can there be a lasting and sustainable peace in the broader region.

IUSY remains committed to advocating for justice, equality, and peace in Palestine and all over the world. We urge all parties and the international community to use this opportunity to bring an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people and pave the way for sustainability and stability.
