IUSY condemns the missile attacks on the Iranian Kurdish Party headquarter (KDPI) and refugee camp of the Iranian Kurdish refugees

After the murder of Zhina Amini for not complying with hijab regulations properly, which the Autocratic regime has imposed on all women across Iran and Kurdistan since coming to power in 1979, demonstrations started in East Kurdistan and then spread throughout Iran. Many of the demonstrators in Eastern Kurdistan demanded the return of a democratic government that respects the rights and the aspirations of the Kurdish people.

The Iranian autocratic regime confronted the protests brutally and inhumanly, violating the fundamental rights of the Iranian people. The protesters in Iran demand a democratic transformation, with freedom and democratic changes in the regime and the government. Protesters urge to respect the rights and freedom of minorities and specifically of the people in Iranian Kurdistan to fulfil their aspirations and practice their rights.

On Wednesday, 28th September autocratic regime and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran, adjacent refugee camps, children’s schools in Koya, and other Eastern Kurdistan parties based in Iraqi Kurdistan with missiles and suicide drones.

Unfortunately, according to the reports, this brutal attack killed 18 people, including women and children, and more than 60 others were wounded.

Nearly 4,000 people in refugee camps have been displaced, including 420 students who cannot attend school due to the regime’s continuous threats.

Protests are still going on in Kurdistan and Iranian cities, and entered its fourth week, the students’ strike at universities and schools recently started, and students have become a wide range of protesters nowadays. Reports shows that many of them have been killed, injured and arrested by the police in Iran.

The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) reiterates its support and solidarity with the Kurdish People of Iranian Kurdistan and the people of Iran.

IUSY strongly condemns the missile attacks on its member organisation’s headquarter and the brutal violence, which led to casualties and displacement of thousands of civilians.

IUSY urges the international community to condemn and impose sanctions on the leadership of the police and the Iranian government, who are behind the oppression of the people in Iran. The leadership of the Iranian regime, that is responsible for the ongoing oppression must be brought to justice.

Nonetheless IUSY strongly supports the aspirations of the Iranian people who want to live in a free, stable, inclusive, and democratic country with the respect of fundamental human rights.
