We, as socialist and social democratic youth organizations from around the world, declare our full solidarity with CHP and all young people in Türkiye defending democracy, justice, and the will of the people.
Today, an event took place that will go down as a dark stain in the political history of the Republic of Türkiye. Through a politicized court decision, the Erdo?an regime removed the elected leadership of the Republican People's Party (CHP), including Chairperson Özgür Özel, and reinstated a former administration.
This is an attempted occupation of CHP.
The process that began more than a year ago with the arrest of presidential candidate and Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem ?mamo?lu, has now escalated into a direct intervention against Türkiye's main opposition party through the imposition of a controlled opposition administration. This represents a grave attack on democracy, judicial independence, and the free political will of millions.
Young people in Türkiye are not silent. Across the country and at CHP headquarters, youth are standing up for democracy, freedom, and justice. As part of the international socialist and social democratic movement, we stand firmly alongside them.
We call on progressive forces, democratic institutions, youth organizations, and the international community to speak out against this anti-democratic intervention and stand with those resisting authoritarianism in Türkiye.
Silence strengthens authoritarianism. International solidarity strengthens hope!
