Act Now to End Israel’s Genocide in Palestine

1. Today, we are witnessing the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people perpetrated by the State of Israel. The ideological roots of this violence stretch far back in history. As early as 1897, Theodor Herzl published works that laid the foundation for political Zionism. Today, Zionism functions as an ethno-nationalist ideology premised on the idea that one ethnic group should constitute a permanent majority within a designated national homeland.
2. This ideology has resulted in a 76-year-long illegal occupation of Palestine, characterized by systematic dispossession, an apartheid regime, and now an active genocide. Under the protection of the Israeli state, settlers and occupying forces have forcibly displaced Palestinians from their homes and established illegal settlements in occupied territory, in direct violation of international law.
3. We are now witnessing an escalation into mass killing, yet no meaningful action has been taken by European states or the international community to halt Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the West Bank. On the contrary, states across the world continue to provide Israel with diplomatic, economic, and military support. This persists despite the International Court of Justice’s 2024 ruling, which confirmed the illegality of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and stated that all third-party support enabling this occupation is unlawful.
4. Nevertheless, governments, particularly in the West, continue to supply Israel with weapons, political cover, and cultural legitimacy. Several states and political leaders have even actively undermined and threatened international judicial bodies investigating Israeli crimes against humanity. This illegal support is not limited to governments: European financial institutions alone have provided approximately 1.5 trillion USD to corporations directly implicated in the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the ICJ’s ruling.
5. Although the EU and several other states have recently taken some steps to pressure Israel such as statements on humanitarian access, threats of targeted sanctions, and a review of the EU-Israel trade agreement, these measures are both late and insufficient. They lack clear consequences and follow over years of inaction, during which tens of thousands of Palestinian lives have been lost. Targeted sanctions against individual settlers and symbolic pauses in already stalled trade talks have proven ineffective, while the EU continues to avoid using its real leverage, despite being Israel’s largest trading partner. This delay and reluctance to act reveal that Europe’s response is more about appeasing growing public opinion than actually stopping Israel’s violations of international law and ongoing genocide. The EU has, and has always had, the power to halt this mass killing, yet it has consistently chosen political caution over accountability. Not to mention other countries.
6. The consequences of Western taxpayers and financial institutions illegally funding this genocide unmistakable. Even the most conservative estimates place the number of Palestinians killed at around 100,000, the vast majority civilians, including those buried beneath rubble. Israeli military sources themselves acknowledge the overwhelmingly civilian nature of the casualties. Independent international estimates, including those published in The Lancet, show mortality patterns consistent with previously documented genocides, as demonstrated in comparative genocide research in detailed studies.
7. European arms export and other forms of military assistance to Israel’s ongoing genocide – including surveillance flights above Gaza, intelligence co-operation and so on – has made it possible for Israel to sustain its illegal aggression. While Germany remains the largest European arms exporter to Israel, other countries have opportunistically increased their involvement in open defiance of the World Court. For example, Sweden increased arms sent to Israel nearly five-fold between October 2023 and October 2024.
8. As of December 2025, numerous international organizations, U.N. expert groups, international scholarly law organizations and genocide experts have reached the same conclusion as the Israeli leadership in its numerous public declarations of what the purpose of the attack against Gaza is: namely, a genocide to empty the land of Palestinians either through outright starvation and slaughter, deliberate destruction of living conditions so severe that survival becomes impossible to then conquer it.
9. The world now faces a choice: continue to be complicit in the genocide or to confront injustice and take a stand for the most fundamental human right—the right to live.

Based on the above we propose:

11. IUSY advocates for a complete ban on all arms exports to Israel.
12. IUSY advocates for the imposition of comprehensive economic sanctions against the State of Israel.
13. IUSY supports the establishment of an international, Palestinian-led funding plan for the reconstruction of Palestine.
