Enforcement and Respect for International Law

1. International law is the bedrock of a rules-based global order. Its principles are universal, demanding respect and adherence from all nations, regardless of their size, power, or political alliances.
2. In an era marked by increasing global tensions, the importance of upholding and enforcing international law has never been greater. Armed conflicts have seen gross violations of international humanitarian law, including deliberate attacks on civilians and the destruction of essential infrastructure like energy and water systems. These actions undermine the very fabric of global stability and human dignity.

Equally concerning are violations in the economic realm, where illegal occupations are supported through the exploitation of resources and trade practices that ignore the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. The annexation of territories, the plundering of resources from occupied areas, and the trade of such goods represent a direct challenge to the international legal framework.
4. Social democratic governments, known for our commitment to justice and human rights, bear a special responsibility to lead by example. Their actions must reflect a unified and principled approach to addressing violations of international law, regardless of where they occur or who commits them. This includes the consistent application of sanctions, the rejection of double standards, and a firm commitment to accountability for all forms of breaches—whether in warfare or economic practices.
5. The enforcement of international law also requires proactive measures to hold perpetrators accountable. Crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes must be prosecuted through both national and international mechanisms. The social democratic governments must stand united in pursuing justice, ensuring that leaders and individuals who commit such atrocities are held to account, irrespective of their nationality or political affiliations.

11. Strengthened support for international institutions, such as the International Criminal Court, to enhance global mechanisms for accountability and enforcement.
12. Leadership by the social democratic governments in advocating for respect for international law through their foreign policies and active participation in global forums.
