Official resolution
Free menstrual products
July 2026
European Committee
- Access to menstrual products is a matter of equality and human rights. No one should
- have to forgo education, work, or leisure activities due to a lack of necessary hygiene
- products. By providing free menstrual products, the world can take an important step
- toward a more inclusive and equitable society.
- Menstrual products are essential hygiene items used by half the population for a
- significant portion of their lives. Despite this, they remain a financial burden for many, and
- access is not always guaranteed. Studies show that economic barriers force some people
- to go without menstrual products, which can have negative consequences for health,
- school attendance, and participation in society.
- Several countries have already introduced free menstrual products, such as Scotland,
- where menstrual products are available at no cost to anyone who needs them. The world
- should follow this example and ensure that menstrual products are free and accessible in
- schools, as well as in other public spaces and stores, to reduce financial burdens and
- increase access.
Based on the above we propose that:
- IUSY calls for free menstrual products to be provided to students at all schools
- and universities
