Israel's recogniztion of Somaliland

1. In December 2025, Israel and Somaliland reportedly recognised each other. This unilateral move is deeply problematic and risks undermining international law and regional stability.

Such recognition bypasses multilateral processes and disregards the principle of territorial integrity, further destabilising the Horn of Africa—a region already marked by conflict and humanitarian crises. Israel’s actions must also be understood in a broader geopolitical context, where recognition is used as a strategic tool to destabilise the region and advance narrow security and political interests, rather than to promote peace or self-determination.
3. Unilateral recognitions driven by geopolitical calculations weaken international norms and set dangerous precedents. Sustainable peace and stability require multilateralism, respect for international law, and regional dialogue—not destabilising power politics.
