LA IUSY ALZA SU VOZ EN DEFENSA DE LA SOBERANÍA DE LOS ESTADOS

July 2026 American Committee
  1. In recent years, we have witnessed how major world powers have intensified their intervention and interference in the internal affairs of multiple countries, using economic, diplomatic, media, and in some cases even military mechanisms to influence the political and social course of sovereign nations. Far from promoting democracy or development, these practices have deepened inequalities, generated instability, and violated the right of peoples to freely decide their own destiny.
  2. The Americas have not been an exception. Our region has faced external pressures, economic sanctions, the financing of political actors, disinformation operations, and other forms of interference that directly undermine the self-determination of our peoples and the full exercise of sovereignty. This responds to a hegemonic logic that, in its drive to secure strategic resources and territorial control, is willing to turn the hemisphere—and even the Arctic—into a permanent arena of intervention.
  3. These practices openly contradict the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, fundamental instruments of international law that establish the sovereign equality of States, non-intervention, and mutual respect as essential foundations of international coexistence.
  4. From IUSY, we observe with deep concern how, in recent months, the United States and the administration of Donald Trump have intervened directly and indirectly in political and electoral processes in various countries around the world. We also denounce the imposition of disproportionate economic tariffs on several countries in the Americas, threats of military attacks against the Republic of Colombia and Mexico, as well as statements by this administration regarding its intention to exert control over Greenland under the pretext of strengthening the strategic security of the United States.
  5. Through sanctions, diplomatic pressure, financial interference, and military interventions—such as the one carried out in Venezuela on January 3—the United States violates the sovereignty of States, undermines the democratic will of peoples, and attacks the fundamental principles of international law.

As the largest and oldest youth organization in the world, IUSY:

  1. Condemns all forms of political, economic, diplomatic, or media interference by foreign powers in the internal affairs of countries in the Americas and in any other region of the world.
  2. Reaffirms its commitment to the principles of sovereignty, self-determination, and non-intervention, as established in the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
  3. Demands strict respect for the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, ensuring that diplomatic missions act exclusively within their legitimate functions.
  4. Supports the right of peoples in the Americas and around the world to freely determine their political, economic, and social systems, without threats, sanctions, or external conditionalities.
  5. Calls on its member organizations to promote international youth solidarity and the unity of progressive movements in defense of democracy, social justice, and regional integration based on cooperation and mutual respect.
