Youth at the Forefront of Democracy and National Stability

July 2026 Asia Pacific Committee
  1. Considering that Nepal Tarun Dal, the youth wing of the Nepali Congress, is firmly committed to democracy, human rights, social justice, and active participation in the democratic process;
  2. Considering that Nepal Tarun Dal plays a vital role in promoting democratic values, mobilizing young people, fostering leadership, advocating for good governance, transparency, and accountability, and supporting free and fair elections;
  3. Considering that the Generation Z protest, which began on 8 September 2025, emerged as a youth-led movement demanding accountability, an end to corruption and elite impunity, and a more just and equitable society;
  4. Considering that the protests escalated and descended into violence following the excessive use of force by security forces, resulting in the deaths of at least 77 people, including schoolchildren, hundreds of injuries, and widespread destruction of public and private property;
  5. Considering that the political instability led to the resignation of Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli and the appointment of Sushila Karki as interim prime minister, who introduced relief and austerity measures to address the damage caused;
  6. Considering that during the protests, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, Arju Rana Deuba, were injured in an attack on their residence, an act strongly condemned by Nepal Tarun Dal, the Nepali Congress, and the Socialist International;
  7. Considering that Sher Bahadur Deuba has contributed significantly to the global democratic movement through his leadership roles in the Socialist International;
  8. Considering that Nepal Tarun Dal demonstrated its humanitarian commitment by constructing 72 temporary shelters for families affected by the earthquake in Jajarkot and West Rukum following the devastating earthquake of 3 November 2023;
  9. Considering that Nepal faced significant political, social, and natural challenges in 2025, including youth protests, a governmental transition, recurring natural disasters, and preparations for elections scheduled for 5 March 2026;
  10. Therefore, be it resolved that Nepal Tarun Dal reaffirms its unwavering commitment to democracy, peaceful political participation, and constitutional governance;
  11. Be it further resolved that Nepal Tarun Dal recognizes the legitimate aspirations of Nepalese youth and calls for inclusive dialogue and democratic reforms to address corruption, inequality, and governance failures;
  12. Be it further resolved that Nepal Tarun Dal condemns all forms of violence, including the excessive use of force and attacks against political leaders, civilians, and property;
  13. Be it further resolved that Nepal Tarun Dal demands accountability and justice for the victims of the 2025 unrest through independent and transparent investigations;
  14. Be it further resolved that Nepal Tarun Dal expresses its solidarity with democratic forces nationally and internationally and supports free, fair, and peaceful elections;
  15. Finally, be it resolved that Nepal Tarun Dal remains committed to youth empowerment, democratic renewal, humanitarian service, and Nepal’s long-term stability and progress.
