Resolution on the war of aggression of the RussianFederation against Ukraine and the need for a just and lasting peace

The current international context is profoundly shaped by the war of aggression of the Russian Federation
against Ukraine, which constitutes a blatant violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations,
and the fundamental principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
This aggression is not only a direct attack on the Ukrainian people and their right to freely determine their
future, but also a structural threat to international peace, security, and the multilateral system as a whole.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is part of a worrying global trend: the rise of authoritarianism, geopolitical
revisionism, and the use of force as a tool to redefine borders and spheres of influence. These dynamics
undermine decades of progress in international cooperation and set a dangerous precedent that
disproportionately affects the most vulnerable countries, especially those bordering Russia.
From a European perspective, this war directly challenges the integration project built on peace, democracy,
and the rule of law. The European Union and its allies around the world must not limit their response to an
exclusively security-driven logic. The defense of Ukraine must be accompanied by a firm commitment to
diplomacy, the protection of civilians, international justice, and an inclusive security architecture that rejects
both imperialist aggression and the politics of closed blocs.
At the same time, the global impact of the war — in the form of energy, food, and price crises — highlights
the interdependence of the international system and the need for coordinated multilateral responses to
prevent the costs of the conflict from falling on peoples who did not cause it. The instrumentalization of
strategic resources and food as geopolitical weapons is incompatible with a progressive and solidarity-
based vision of the world order.

For all these reasons, from the Socialist Youth of Spain, within the framework of IUSY, we reaf f i rm:

Our firm and unequivocal condemnationof the war of aggression of the Russian Federation against
Ukraine and of any violation of international law, sovereignty, and the territorial integrity of States.
The defense of a just, lasting peace based on international law that fully respects Ukraine’s
sovereignty, territorial integrity, and democratic will. We unequivocally reaffirm that there can be no
negotiations or peace agreements on Ukraine without Ukraine, nor externally imposed solutions that
legitimize aggression, occupation, or the violation of the rights of the Ukrainian people.
Our solidarity with the Ukrainian people, with the SMS youth and SD Platform Ukraine, and with all those who suffer
the human, social, and economic consequences of the war, as well as with those, inside and outside
Russia, who defend peace and democracy in the face of repression.
The commitment to a rules-based international order, democratic multilateralism, and the
strengthening of the United Nations system as the legitimate framework for conflict resolution,
accountability, and the construction of a just and lasting peace.
The need to promote political and diplomatic solutions that bring the conflict to an end, guarantee
collective security, and prevent a military escalation that deepens global confrontation and the risk
of a new division of the world into blocs.
The rejection of both imperialism and authoritarianism, as well as any attempt to relativize violations
of international law under geopolitical or strategic arguments.
The importance of addressing the global impacts of the war from a perspective of social justice
and international solidarity, protecting the most vulnerable from food, energy, and economic crises
arising from the conflict.
The fundamental role of socialist and progressive youth in defending peace, democracy, human
rights, and a coherent internationalism that connects local struggles with a global agenda based
on cooperation and justice.
The call on IUSY and its member organizations to maintain a clear, united, and principled position
in the face of the war, strengthening youth internationalism as a tool to build a more just, peaceful,
and democratic world.
