The Systematic Targeting of PalestinianEducation Under Occupation

July 2026 Mediterranean Committee
  1. LUTIONS | RESOLUCIÓNES | RÉSOLUTIONS
  2. The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) reaffirm its
  3. historic role in standing with oppressed people, especially youth,
  4. in their struggle for freedom, dignity, and justice. Education is not
  5. a privilege granted by power; it is a right. When education is
  6. targeted, it is not collateral damage, it is a deliberate political act
  7. aimed at controlling the future of people.
  8. In the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the West
  9. bank and the Gaza Strip, Palestinian students are systematically
  10. denied their right to education through military violence, siege,
  11. and structural repression. In the West Bank, Israeli occupation
  12. forces repeatedly invade Palestinian university campuses, storm
  13. lecture halls and dormitories, arrest students and student leaders,
  14. and use intimidation and force inside academic spaces. These
  15. actions terrorize students, disrupt academic life, and criminalize
  16. political and student organizing, turning universities into sites of
  17. military control rather than spaces of learning.
  18. In Gaza, the situation is even more extreme. The genocide against
  19. the Gaza Strip has led to the destruction of every university and
  20. thousands of schools. Students and educators have been killed,
  21. academic infrastructure has been erased, and more than two full
  22. academic years have been lost. Education in Gaza has not simply
  23. been interrupted, it has been deliberately destroyed. The ongoing
  24. siege, mass displacement, psychological trauma, famine, and
  25. lack of basic services continue to make education impossible,
  26. even beyond active military bombardment.
  27. IUSY recognizes that the invasion of university campuses in the
  28. West Bank and the destruction of education in Gaza is part of a
  29. single, coordinated policy. This policy aims to break Palestinian
  30. society by targeting its students, its institutions, and its future. This
  31. practice constitutes terrorizing students, the use of fear, violence,
  32. and destruction to suppress education, critical thought, and
  33. collective resistance.
  34. IUSY condemns the targeting of educational institutions, students,
  35. and educators in all forms. The militarization of campuses, the
  36. destruction of schools and universities, and the terrorization of
  37. students are serious violations of international law and an attack
  38. on the right of an entire generation to learn, organize, and live with
  39. dignity. IUSY stands in full solidarity with Palestinian students in
  40. Gaza and the West Bank and with all students facing repression
  41. under occupation and war.

Therefore, IUSY resolves:

  1. To recognize the systematic targeting of Palestinian education as
  2. a terrorizing act and a grave violation of international law and
  3. human rights.
  4. To condemn Israeli military invasions of Palestinian university
  5. campuses in the West Bank, including arrests, harassment, and
  6. the use of force against students, faculty, and academic spaces.
  7. To acknowledge the ongoing impact of the genocide in Gaza on
  8. education, including the destruction of all higher education
  9. institutions and the loss of multiple academic years for an entire
  10. generation of students.
  11. To call on international institutions to take immediate and
  12. concrete measures to protect education in Palestine, in line with
  13. international humanitarian law and the Safe Schools Declaration.
  14. To urge IUSY member organizations to actively support
  15. Palestinian students, through academic solidarity, psychological
  16. support, advocacy for detained students, and sustained pressure
  17. against the militarization and targeting of education.
  18. To reaffirm IUSY’s commitment to justice, peace, and the universal
  19. right to education, and to oppose occupation, apartheid, and
  20. colonial policies that deny youth their future.
  21. IUSY affirms that there is no freedom without education and no
  22. peace without justice. Standing against systematic targeting
  23. and militarization of education under occupation is not
  24. symbolic, it is a political and moral responsibility that defines
  25. who we are an international youth movement.
