- The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) reaffirm its
- historic role in standing with oppressed people, especially youth,
- in their struggle for freedom, dignity, and justice. Education is not
- a privilege granted by power; it is a right. When education is
- targeted, it is not collateral damage, it is a deliberate political act
- aimed at controlling the future of people.
- In the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the West
- bank and the Gaza Strip, Palestinian students are systematically
- denied their right to education through military violence, siege,
- and structural repression. In the West Bank, Israeli occupation
- forces repeatedly invade Palestinian university campuses, storm
- lecture halls and dormitories, arrest students and student leaders,
- and use intimidation and force inside academic spaces. These
- actions terrorize students, disrupt academic life, and criminalize
- political and student organizing, turning universities into sites of
- military control rather than spaces of learning.
- In Gaza, the situation is even more extreme. The genocide against
- the Gaza Strip has led to the destruction of every university and
- thousands of schools. Students and educators have been killed,
- academic infrastructure has been erased, and more than two full
- academic years have been lost. Education in Gaza has not simply
- been interrupted, it has been deliberately destroyed. The ongoing
- siege, mass displacement, psychological trauma, famine, and
- lack of basic services continue to make education impossible,
- even beyond active military bombardment.
- IUSY recognizes that the invasion of university campuses in the
- West Bank and the destruction of education in Gaza is part of a
- single, coordinated policy. This policy aims to break Palestinian
- society by targeting its students, its institutions, and its future. This
- practice constitutes terrorizing students, the use of fear, violence,
- and destruction to suppress education, critical thought, and
- collective resistance.
- IUSY condemns the targeting of educational institutions, students,
- and educators in all forms. The militarization of campuses, the
- destruction of schools and universities, and the terrorization of
- students are serious violations of international law and an attack
- on the right of an entire generation to learn, organize, and live with
- dignity. IUSY stands in full solidarity with Palestinian students in
- Gaza and the West Bank and with all students facing repression
- under occupation and war.
Therefore, IUSY resolves:
- To recognize the systematic targeting of Palestinian education as
- a terrorizing act and a grave violation of international law and
- human rights.
- To condemn Israeli military invasions of Palestinian university
- campuses in the West Bank, including arrests, harassment, and
- the use of force against students, faculty, and academic spaces.
- To acknowledge the ongoing impact of the genocide in Gaza on
- education, including the destruction of all higher education
- institutions and the loss of multiple academic years for an entire
- generation of students.
- To call on international institutions to take immediate and
- concrete measures to protect education in Palestine, in line with
- international humanitarian law and the Safe Schools Declaration.
- To urge IUSY member organizations to actively support
- Palestinian students, through academic solidarity, psychological
- support, advocacy for detained students, and sustained pressure
- against the militarization and targeting of education.
- To reaffirm IUSY’s commitment to justice, peace, and the universal
- right to education, and to oppose occupation, apartheid, and
- colonial policies that deny youth their future.
- IUSY affirms that there is no freedom without education and no
- peace without justice. Standing against systematic targeting
- and militarization of education under occupation is not
- symbolic, it is a political and moral responsibility that defines
- who we are an international youth movement.
