Réunis à Kinshasa, en République démocratique du Congo, du 22 au 25 octobre 2026, à l’occasion de la réunion du Comité Afrique de l’Union internationale de la jeunesse socialiste (IUSY), sous le thème « Construire ensemble l’avenir de la jeunesse socialiste africaine : défendre la démocratie et renforcer la solidarité » ;

Meeting of the Africa Committee of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY)

Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, 22–25 October 2026

Gathered in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, from 22 to 25 October 2026, on the occasion of the meeting of the Africa Committee of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), under the theme “Building the future of African socialist youth together: defending democracy and strengthening solidarity”;

We, the member organisations and participants, reaffirm our commitment to the values of peace, democracy, social justice and international solidarity.

The Kinshasa meeting is taking place in a continental context marked by persistent armed conflicts, political crises, terrorist violence and geopolitical tensions that undermine the stability of our States and jeopardise the future of African youth. From the Sahel to the Horn of Africa, from Sudan to the Great Lakes region, civilian populations continue to pay a heavy price for insecurity.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, the host country of our meeting, has not been spared. We firmly condemn the aggression it is suffering at the hands of Rwanda, as well as any violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

For nearly thirty years, the conflicts ravaging the east of the country have cost millions of human lives, caused massive population displacement and created a protracted humanitarian crisis. This tragedy must not become a forgotten inevitability, nor be relegated to the margins of the international agenda.

We firmly condemn the decision of the former President of the Republic of the DRC to join the rebel camp, an act that raises serious questions in light of the responsibilities he exercised as head of State, respect for republican institutions, and the preservation of peace and stability in the country.

We call for a cessation of hostilities, the protection of civilian populations, respect for international law and a lasting political solution that guarantees peace and stability in the Great Lakes region.

We also denounce the illegal exploitation of natural resources where it serves to fuel and prolong conflicts.

We reaffirm our support for the Congolese people, for the institutions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and for our comrades of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS).

We express to them our fraternal solidarity and our gratitude for the welcome extended to the delegations of the IUSY Africa Committee.

We call on the international community to step up its efforts for peace and to support the affected populations.

Convinced that lasting security cannot be separated from democracy and social justice, we recall that young people must be fully involved in the decisions that shape their future.

One of the highlights of this meeting was a major step forward towards the creation of the African Socialist Youth Organisation. This project, driven by the will to strengthen ties between the continent’s socialist youth organisations, opens up new prospects for collective action and better coordination at the African level.

Discussions on the practical arrangements for the organisation and functioning of this future organisation have been postponed to the next meeting, in order to continue the preparatory work.

Our commitments

  • To carry the voice of the Democratic Republic of the Congo within our organisations and cooperation forums, in support of respect for its sovereignty and a lasting peace.

  • To mobilise African socialist youth against violence, hate speech and the manipulation of young people in conflicts.

  • To promote democracy and the participation of young people in conflict prevention, dialogue and reconciliation initiatives.

  • To follow up on this declaration by encouraging member organisations to disseminate its recommendations and to take concrete action in their respective countries.

From Kinshasa, we issue a call for unity, responsibility and pan-African solidarity.

We refuse to remain indifferent to the suffering of peoples and reaffirm our determination to contribute to building a sovereign, democratic, peaceful and socially just Africa.

Done in Kinshasa, 24 October 2026.
