Artificial Intelligence and Democratic Control

While AI technologies hold the potential to improve lives, reduce inequality, and support social progress, their current development is overwhelmingly driven by corporate interests and concentrated in the hands of a few powerful technology companies.
2. Without democratic oversight and strong regulation, AI risks deepening inequality, undermining workers’ rights, reinforcing discrimination, and eroding democratic control.

IUSY therefore demand that:

3. Artificial intelligence is strictly regulated through democratic and transparent frameworks, with human rights and social justice at their core.
4. Big Tech corporations are prevented from monopolising AI development, data, and infrastructure, and are held accountable for the societal impacts of their technologies.
5. AI must not be used to undermine workers’ rights, job security, or collective bargaining, and workers must be protected in all AI-driven transformations.
6. The use of AI in surveillance, policing, warfare, and migration control is severely restricted or prohibited where it threatens human rights and civil liberties.
7. Public authorities and international institutions take a leading role in AI governance, ensuring that technology serves people, democracy, and the common good - not corporate profit.
